2018 Fall Devil’s Tower/Wright golf tournaments

LUSK- The Tiger Golf team traveled to Hulett on Tuesday to play at the Golf Club at Devil’s Tower.  They joined Sundance, Moorcroft and Wright for the competition.  Just as the weather started out cold, wet, and windy, the golf scores started high and improved as the day wore on.  Micah Shaner and Mackenzie Lyons each won their respective divisions with solid golf again.  Micah shot an 88 beating Caden Conally from Moorcroft by a stroke and Mackenzie shot a 104 beating Allison Meredith, also from Moorcroft by two strokes.  Ben Eiden shot 114, Jayden Matthews a 125 and Dalton Larson shot a 132.  From the men’s tees the golf course is a difficult one and the boys did a good job scoring what they did.  They left a number of golf balls at the course and surrounding areas probably never to be found again.  Joz Potter was the other Tiger golfer along and she shot a 129, which is not as low as her season average, but she garnered valuable experience as she continues to strive to earn All-State honors.

On Friday the Tigers traveled to Wright without a sick Micah Shaner.  The boys played steady golf but could not register a team score without four players.  Ben Eiden continued his steady improvement with a 104.  His short game will determine how well he does in the next two weeks.  Jayden Matthews ran into a stretch of mishits and found out what all golfers go through on bad days.  He still battled to a 132.  Dalton Larson played one of his better rounds of the season shooting a 125 with a par and a bogey in his round.

The Lady Tigers dealt with their first 2A loss of the year to the Wright Lady Panthers.  Mackenzie Lyons led the way for the Lady Tigers again shooting a 107 but wasn’t very satisfied with her round.  Makena Engelker was coming off being sick for 3 or 4 days and shot a 118.  Joz Potter shot one of her better scores of the year with a 118 as well.  Losing to Wright on their home course should set up an interesting tournament this weekend as they all meet here in Lusk for a two day event which tunes everyone up for the State Tournament the following weekend.
