2019 NCHS ALUMNI GOLF TOURNAMENT SELECTS HONOREES

LUSK - The NCHS Alumni Golf Tournament has chosen Joe and Wava Tully as the 2019 honored guests. The Tullys have dedicated many years of service and support to the Niobrara County School District and the community of Lusk.

The Tully family came to Lusk in the summer of 1978, when Joe accepted employment as the middle school science teacher. At that time, Joe had already received a BS in Biology from UW and had a few years of teaching under his belt in Nebraska. Wava accepted a position as a paraprofessional until she received her degree from UW in 1983, and accepted a teaching position with the school district upon graduation. Joe continued his education a few years later, earning a Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Wyoming in 1993. The two of them combined, have provided 56 years of teaching (Joe 31, Wava 25) to the Niobrara County School District. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, Joe dedicated 32 years to coaching young athletes and spent 7 years as the NCHS principal. Wava’s exceptional teaching earned her the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Department of Agriculture in 2004, and was named to the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees in 2012.

Joe fondly remembers his years in the green cinder block middle school building, while Wava always loved reading “Where the Red Fern Grows” with her 3rd graders. They both agree that their greatest memories were raising 3 daughters (Bridget, Tami, and Kellie Jo) in the school district and serving the community of Lusk.

The 4th Annual NCHS Alumni Golf Tournament will be held June 21 at the Lusk Golf Course. This year’s tournament will host 36 three-man teams. The tournament will have an 8 a.m. flight and an afternoon flight starting at approximately 1:30 p.m., with 18 teams per flight. This tournament will be a handicapped scramble. Similar to last year, all proceeds will be donated to benefit students/graduates of Niobrara County High School. There are still a couple of morning flight team slots available. If you are interested in making a cash donation, donating an item for the door prize drawings, volunteering the day of the tournament, or entering a team, please contact one of the board members. Contributions can be mailed to PO Box 691, Lusk, 82225, dropped off with Tandy Dockery at her office Clark and Associates, or via PayPal using our email address nchsalumnigolf@gmail.com.
