It is time to soon ring in spring even if the snow banks aren’t ready to completely melt away. One good way to start is by checking closets for those garments and accessories that have taken up room although seldom worn or used. The American Legion Ferdinand Brandstetter Auxiliary Unit #1 of Van Tassell will soon be setting out boxes for donations of purses to be auctioned off to fund a Girls State delegate. These can be new or gently used (remember we want people to bid on them). Be sure to mark the date on your favorite calendar for the event, Saturday, April 29, 2023, which will start at 6:00 p.m. at the Niobrara Senior Center. The Center will provide beverages and snacks to enjoy during the auction. As I checked my own purses that I have chosen to donate (two are new designer purses, that my daughter-in-law donated.) I have at least eight set aside so far, and recommend folks check their donations to be certain no important items have been left in any of the pockets (like money). Designer purses are generally very well-constructed of high-quality materials and have a name conspicuously attached like Dooney-Bourke, Kipling, Tignanello, Jane Spade, etc.
