LUSK – For the next several weeks, the focus of the K-2 after school program at the Niobrara County Library will be Jan Brett.
The class on Jan. 14 talked about silly Hedgie the Hedgehog that sported an accidental “new hat” after it flew from a clothesline in Jan Brett’s “The Hat.” Hedgie made a mistake when he put his nose into the hat to check it out, but then it gets stuck on all of his prickles.
As the story continues, an embarrassed Hedgie gets asked by all of the animals he encounters about his
new hat.
He is finally freed by Lisa, who asks Hedgie, “Don’t you know that animals don’t wear clothes?”
At the end, inspired by Hedgie’s hat, the other animals found their very own hats.
Tina Kitras, the Children’s Librarian, read the book of Hedgie and then helped the kids make their own Hedgie to take home with them out of paper hand cut outs and a little bit of creativity.
Kitras will be reading other Jan Brett books, with activities to follow at their Tuesday classes at the Niobrara County Library from 3:35-4:45 p.m..
