Annual Agricultural Expo offers diverse range of activities

Posted

Niobrara County Cattle Women have been sponsoring the Annual Agricultural Expo for the Niobrara County School kids for 19 years and in 2018 their line-up is full of a diverse range of activities and presentation stations for the NCSD 3rd Graders and Lance Creek School.  They have selected a “Bee” theme to go with the special project currently being worked on by senior 4-H members in the county with the Extension Office’s apiary and bee garden project.

The Rawhide FFA Chapter has been an integral part of this day by providing assistance and group leaders to oversee the students and ensure they are at the appropriate station and helping with the skills stations. Jason Hubbard, FFA Advisor is also helping with the roping station.

Hillary Wasserburger, Jessica Adams and Jamie Phipps have been the primary organizers for this year’s expo. The NCCW provide educational materials for the students and lunch for students, teachers and volunteers. They rely heavily on volunteers from the community and assistance from business entities.

Skills and knowledge stations include Cow Camp Saddlery with Mark and Lori Barcus, Brady Vandeberg with animal antler and horn identification, the Wyoming Predator Board display trailer, Niobrara Extension Bee project, Chelsea Baars and the Farm Bureau with the wheat knowledge station. Other local resources are provided by the Farm Services office Tommy Stevens and Kimberly Nusbaum who are presenting on “The Many Hats of Ranchers”. Jeanette Starck is also doing a special presentation on Draft horses which she has given several times over the years.
