Annual luncheon has good turnout

LUSK – While the word “luncheon” might mean fussy food and small portions to some, at the PEO Soup and Salad luncheon the portions and food are anything but fussy. As always, the annual luncheon fed attendees with delicious homemade soups, breads, salads and cookies.

The PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) hosted their annual lunch on October 11. Members of the community could purchase tickets in advance or pay at the door. Held at the Episcopal church, the luncheon showed off fun fall decor along with hearty helpings of soup and homemade bread. Assorted cookies rounded out the offerings and no one went away hungry.

The Lusk PEO is an embodiment of the PEO motto, “Women helping women reach for the stars.” The local chapter provides multiple scholarships for continuing, new and non-traditional learners for continuing education. In addition to local scholarships, the International PEO provides scholarship opportunity at the national and international levels with their International Peace Scholarship and Program for Continuing Education as well as the STAR scholarship.

Founded in 1869 at Wesleyan University, the PEO has continually sought to promote sisterhood and education for all women. The local chapter has held the annual luncheon for 44 years.
