Loading and Unloading Rules

LUSK ELEMENTARY/MIDDLE SCHOOL

Those parents who drive their children to and from school are reminded that during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students the entire driveway in front of the school is used for buses only.  Parents will not be permitted to use this area during these times for parking, to enter the parking area or to pick their children up or drop them off.

Parents will have to use the north entrance of the parking lot if they choose to park in the lot to pick up or drop off their children, or they may park on the street.

Bus Notes

Students getting on the bus at home or school will ride all the way to their final destination (school or home) unless picked up by the parents.  Students will not be allowed to ride part way on the bus and the rest of the way with a friend.  Violators will be excluded from bus transportation.

Buses are required by law to stop at railroad crossings.

If a bus has seat belts, their use is required.

Buses are for the students that live on the bus route.  Adults may not ride school buses as passengers unless assigned by the principal or in case of emergency.

Other students must have a note from their parents signed by the principal, and there must be seating available, as some of our route busses are full.

Lusk Police will be working at the Lusk Elementary/Middle School to ticket no parking areas where buses load and unload.

Families who live in town and wish to have their children ride buses to school, when space is available, are asked to contact Kevin Gaukel, Transportation Director at 334-0171.

Wyoming law states that the driver of a vehicle, upon meeting or overtaking from either direction a school bus stopped on a roadway, shall stop before reaching the school bus while the bus’s flashing red lights are in operation and the driver shall not proceed until the school bus resumes motion or the flashing red lights are no longer activated.
