Lifelong Niobrara citizen Bertilla “Bertie” Jones was the guest of honor on March 9, 2017 at a reception held in the Niobrara Senior Center dining hall from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.   She was honored with a proclamation presented by Mayor Pat Smith of the Town of Lusk “in recognition of her devotion to helping others, For being a friend to all, For being the best and most caring volunteer in the whole county.”  She also received two plaques from the Senior Center in recognition of her twenty-eight years as a valued employee of the Niobrara Senior Center and Sunshine Room in the Ranger Apt. building.  A beautifully decorated chocolate cake was served with punch, mints and nuts to those who stopped by for the occasion.

Bertie’s contribution to the Niobrara community includes many other organizations as she is an active member of the Roadrunners Extension Club, faithful member of the Congregational Church and past president of their Ladies Circle, and plays pinochle in the Marathon games.  She currently can be found at the Cozy Corner helping the residents there including calling Bingo every week.  She is a busy lady with many local friends who came to wish her well and express their appreciation for her gift of time and talents, especially to the older generation.
