LUSK – Thursday evening at Tiger Gym, Niobrara County High School had an early conference match against Pine Bluffs. The teams traded leads early in the first set, as the Lady Tigers held a 12-10 edge. An 8-3 run by the visitors prompted a timeout but the Lady Hornets held on for the 25-19 win.

Busy weekend for Lady Tiger volleyball

LUSK – Thursday evening at Tiger Gym, Niobrara County High School had an early conference match against Pine Bluffs. The teams traded leads early in the first set, as the Lady Tigers held a 12-10 edge. An 8-3 run by the visitors prompted a timeout but the Lady Hornets held on for the 25-19 win.

PB took the second set lead and while the Lady Tigers hung close, the visitors came away with the 25-17 win. In the third and trailing 7-6, Phoebe Allbright reeled off five straight service points for Lusk. The Lady Hornets retook the lead and held off a late run in the 25-17 victory in three sets.

BIG HORN – The Lady Tigers were on the bus Friday morning at 5:30 a.m. for the two-day tournament in Big Horn. After the long ride, NCHS faced Greybull and fell in two sets 25-16 and 26-25. Lusk matched up with Wright a bit later and came up short by the 25-21 and 25-12 scores. The Wyopreps.com second-ranked Riverside squad was the final pool play opponent and the Lady Rebels defeated NCHS 25-14 and 25-16.

Saturday had the Lady Tigers in the Gold bracket and facing Pine Bluffs. The Lady Hornets won in two sets by the 25-11 and 25-10 scores. Facing Wind River next, Lusk rebounded to defeat the Lady Cougars 25-19 and 25-23 to set up a rematch with Greybull. The Lady Buffs won by the 25-12 and 25-6 scores.

NCHS TEAM STATS: Serving 154/192, 15 aces, 80 pct; Kills 42/240; Assists 36; Digs 139/262

NCHS PLAYER STATS: Serving- Krueger 27/30; Allbright 18/20, 4 aces; Gracie ZumBrunnen 29/33; E. DesEnfants 29/35, 5 aces; A. DesEnfants 23/30, 4 aces. Kills- E. DesEnfants 10; M. ZumBrunnen 7; A. DesEnfants 6; Krueger 5; G. ZumBrunnen 5. Assists- E. DesEnfants 19; M. ZumBrunnen 16. Digs- Krueger 33; E. DesEnfants 24; M. ZumBrunnen 21.

The JV was busy as well, after falling to Pine Bluffs they had six games in Big Horn. They split with Greybull (13-21, 21-18), Wright (21-15, 2-21), Riverside (21-11, 14-21) and PB (19-21, 21-15). Wind River (21-19, 21-17) and Greybull (21-9, 21-10) defeated NCHS in two sets.

This week the Lady Tigers travel to Sioux County, Neb. for Thursday evening JV and varsity matches beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Lusk visits Southeast with JV starting at 1 p.m. and varsity to follow.
