Caldera captures two golds


CASPER – Ten members of the Niobrara County High School Tiger track and field team competed in the Wyoming State 2A Track and Field Meet this weekend. In the team race, the boys scored 31 points to place seventh, while the girls scored 18 to finish 14th.

Senior Jasper Caldera capped off his stellar senior track season by winning both throwing events.  On Friday, he bombed a 157-foot throw to win the discus and followed it up with a 50-foot throw to win the shot put on Saturday. After earning all-state honors, he looks to continue his track career at Black Hills State next year.

Sophomore Jazmin Ladwig hurdled her way to all-state honors in the 100 hurdles, placing second in 17.85 seconds in one of the best races of her young career.

Mel ZumBrunnen had a busy weekend making finals in all three sprint races. She finished fifth in the 400 in a personal best 1 minute, 3.05 seconds and seventh in both the 100 and 200. She also competed in the high jump clearing 4 feet, 6 inches.

Junior thrower Dylan Molzahn competed well in the shot put where he was in second place going into the final throw but ended up in bronze position. He also competed in the discus but registered a no distance.

Senior Aric Eaton cleared 11 feet in pole vault, finishing fourth, and he was in contention for a top spot for much of the competition. 

Senior thrower Anna Richardson was in the log jam of 2A girls shot put where four inches separated fourth and eighth place. She finished in seventh position with a throw of 32-1.5.

Renae Marker finished her Tiger career clearing 4-4 in high jump on Friday.

Cody Taylor competed very well in the 3,200 on Thursday placing just off the podium in 10th with a time of 11:35.

Freshman vaulters David West and Hattie Nelson competed in the pole vault not clearing opening height but gaining some valuable experience that will help in the next three years of competition.
