Charles Wayne Sommers (Chuck) 58, of Cody, Wyoming, passed away, Monday, February 26, 2018 in his home after a long battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease. A Celebration of Life Service will take place in Lusk, WY on Monday, June 11 from 1-3pm at the Congregational Church.
Chuck was born on August 20, 1959 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Mary Jo Vineyard Sommers and Charles Victor Sommers. Years later, Mary Jo re-married to Larry Lund bringing a wonderful stepfather into Chuck’s life. While attending and graduating high school in Niobrara County, he met Kimmy Leann Shockley; whom he married in 1980 in Lusk, Wyoming. Within a few years, daughters Dana and Cara completed their family. Chuck worked on the 77 Ranch in Lance Creek, Wyoming until 1997 when the family moved to Cody, Wyoming. Chuck was ‘a jack of all trades’ and worked for various employers including Bromley Construction & Log Homes, Park County Sheriff’s Department, as well as a few other positions. With his hobbies and work, Chuck still found time to attend Dana’s sporting events as well as enjoying Cara’s musical endeavors while they were in school. He was always so proud of his girls.
When Chuck and Kim became “empty nesters,” they enjoyed pack trips and 4-wheeling with friends on weekend adventures as well as finishing projects in and around their home. In his spare time, Chuck loved horseback riding and hunting. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed pulling pranks on his loved ones and close friends. The very familiar twinkle in his eye and crooked grin gave away his intentions. In 2007, Dana married Dustin Tescher. Chuck welcomed and embraced his son in-law like the son he never had. Chuck was given the proud title, “Grandpa” with his first granddaughter in 2008.
Chuck was quick to help friends in need, no matter the distance or circumstance. He was honest, loyal, hardworking and a true friend to everyone. He was a real cowboy, through and through.
He is survived by his wife Kim Sommers, daughters Dana (Dustin) Tescher and Cara Sommers, his four granddaughters Kailee, Karlee, Kinlee, and Kenzee Tescher, mother Mary Jo Lund, brother Roger Lund, sisters Laurie (Jim) Allshouse, Stephanie Sommers and Larree Ann (Randy) Kraft as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Chuck is proceeded in death by his father Charles Victor Sommers, step father Larry Lund, and brother Ronald Lund.
