TORRINGTON – A planned chili cook-off, hosted by Open Barrel Brewing Company and scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, has been cancelled.
According to a text message from Open Barrel Brewing Company manager Gypsy La’more, the event was “canceled by the Wyoming Agriculture Department.”
UPDATE: Derek Grant, public information officer for the Wyoming Dept. of Agriculture, explained the way Open Barrel is licensed - as a food manufacturer to allow them to brew beer on site - prohibits food prepared in home kitchens from being served in the establishment. Open Barrel doesn't have a commercial kitchen.
Open Barrel co-owner Clayton Kilgore said they are currently looking into other options for future events. But, for now, the chili cook-off is canceled.
