The Rawhide Rural Health Clinic presented the Niobrara County Library Foundation Board with “Thank You” cards colored by the Lusk Early Childhood Center to thank them for their donations to the clinic’s “Raising Readers Program.” The Raising Readers Program is meant to encourage parents to read to their children by teaming up with providers who “prescribe” books for children during their wellness checks. The “prescriptions” are for parents or guardians to read to their child a minimum of 15 minutes each day.
The program offers books to children during their Well Child Checks. Each child receives a book at ages 2, 4, 6, 12, 15, 18 months and 2, 3, 4, and 5 years of age. Each book is specifically chosen for each age to help for a growing brain!
The program was established in Wyoming in 2002 and since then has given over 400,000 books to the cause. A team of people from around Wyoming who have expertise in early childhood have developed criteria for the books.
