NIOBRARA COUNTY – A multi-phase construction project for east Hwy. 18/20 between Lusk and Van Tassell was set to resume starting Monday.
Signs notifying of the construction zone and that fines will be higher through the work zone have already appeared on the eastern edge of third street, which turns into highway 18/20 as it heads east out of Lusk.
This project is part of a larger project anticipated to run from Lusk to the Wyoming/Nebraska border. It involves widening, rebasing, resurfacing and improving support structures along a nine-mile stretch of highway. Equipment has already begun moving top soil and an equipment yard is established on the north side of the highway.
According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation, motorists can anticipate travel delays and detours as soon as April 6 if construction moves forward as anticipated with no significant weather delays. The project may be impacted by COVID-19 but engineers do not predict a total halt of activity.
