Corky Greenough

Corky Greenough was born Dec. 10, 1933 to Edward and Harriet (Witt) Greenough in Ainsworth, Nebr.  He passed away at Niobrara Community Hospital in Lusk, Wyo. March 15, 2017 at the age of 83.  Memorial services were held Sat., Mar. 18, 2017 at the Niobrara County Shooting Sports Building in Lusk, Wyo.

Corky attended school in Ainsworth.  On Oct. 12, 1952 he married JoAnn Simons, and was blessed with two sons:  Dale and Doug.  They made their home in Cody, Nebr. for 25 years.  Corky was employed by Moormans Manufacturing and retired after 34 years.  He and JoAnn built the South 40 Restaurant and Lounge in Chadron, Nebr., for 6 years, and owned and operated the Westerner Motel in Chadron for 4 years.  They retired to Lusk, Wyo. to be close to family.

Corky never knew a stranger, and will be remembered as a dedicated and generous man.  He enjoyed raising paint horses, duck hunting, fishing, reading western novels, playing cards, and dancing with his wife every chance he got.

His all-time joy was spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren.

Corky was preceded in death by his parents, brother Larry Greenough, and nephew Rocky Greenough.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, JoAnn; sons:  Dale Greenough and Doug(Julie) Greenough; grandchildren:  Mandi Sioux, Tucker, Brytne, and Beau Greenough; brother Jerry (Shirley) Greenough; sister Betty (Don) Fernau; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Niobrara Senior Center or to the Niobrara Community Hospital long term care.
