Darrell Lynn Fitzwater “Duke” was born on July 23, 1944 to Ralph & Geraldine Fitzwater in Freemont Ohio.

As a boy, he enjoyed riding the neighbors’ horses while they were at church.  From then on, he grew a love for horses.

When he was 16 he moved to Tucson Arizona where he worked at a riding stable.  In 1962 he moved to Wyoming and began working on ranches and several different fields of work.  But his passion was always working with horses.

In 1966 he met the love of his life.  Soon after they married, they started a family and had three children.

He led a simple life filled with love, happiness, and told tall tales based on true events.  He was a little rough around the edges but had a big heart.  He always had a stuffed animal in his hand to give to a child.

He passed away peacefully at the Niobrara Community Hospital on May 30, 2017. A graveside service was held at the Manville, Cemetery on June 3rd, 2017 with Pastor Tom Strock officiating.

Duke is survived by his wife of 50 years, Connie Fitzwater; 3 children, Rusty, Kelly & Jenny; seven grandchildren; five brothers & four sisters.

A memorial has been established to the family or the St. Jude’s organization. Condolences may be left online at pierfh.com.
