Eaton and Caldera Earn All Conference


PINE BLUFFS – The track team traveled to Pine Bluffs on Saturday to compete in the SEWAC track meet, and the boys scored 89 points to place fourth, just two points out of third. The girls scored 47 to place fifth.  

Jasper Caldera earned All-SEWAC honors by winning the shot and discus.  He went over 51 feet again in the shot and 150 feet, 5 inches in the discus. 

“It is exciting to win SEWAC, but I am not done yet,” Caldera said after the meet.

Teammate Dylan Molzahn continued to push him, as Molzahn earned silver in both events going just over 48 feet in shot and almost 129 feet in discus.

The other All-SEWAC performer was Aric Eaton who had a great day. 

He won the pole vault clearing 11 feet on a gusty day. He also placed sixth in both the 100-meter dash and triple jump. 

Eaton stated, “It’s exciting to have won SEWAC twice in my career, but I am looking forward to regionals and state.”

Freshman David West is coming into his own as he placed second in the 800-meter run, only 8 seconds behind the favorite to win the 1A state title.  Fellow distance runner Cody Taylor ran a gutsy 1,600-meter run to earn bronze in a time of 5 minutes, 39 seconds.

West and Taylor along with Collin Taylor and Caleb Miller ran well in both the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.  The team placed second in the 4x800 in a time of 9:58 and third in the 4x400 in 4:12. Miller also earned bronze in the high jump going 5-3.

The sprint medley relay team of Mason Wells, Jayce Cummins, Stanton Ricketts and Gabe Matthews placed third. Cummins also placed sixth in the long jump going 17-5.5.

The girls highlight reel continues to include Mel ZumBrunnen. She earned bronze medals in the 100-meter dash in 13.56 seconds, the 200-meter in 28.49 and the long jump in a personal best 15-2.5. She also placed sixth in the high jump.

Senior Renae Marker had a nice day almost winning the high jump. She ended up earning second with a jump 4-8. Marker also placed fifth in the long jump going a personal best of almost 14 feet. 

Senior Anna Richardson continues to place in the throwing events. She placed fourth in the shot going 33-9 and fifth in the discus at 92-2.

Hurdler Jazmin Ladwig also proved her worth placing third in the 100 hurdles in 18 seconds and fourth in the 300 hurdles in 54.41 seconds.

The girls 4x100 relay of Richardson, Ladwig, Jaden Stauffer, and Courtney Rowley placed fifth in a time of 58.90 seconds.

The Tigers head to Torrington on Friday and Saturday for the 2A East Regionals.
