LUSK.- Traveling over 1,200 miles in rural America, Amanda Groethe and Whitney Ditlevson, two Minnesota millennials, are on a cross-country electric vehicle road trip. Their final destination is Salt Lake City, Utah.
They plan to stop in Lusk, Wyo. in the afternoon on Monday, May 7th to charge their electric vehicle (EV) along the way. They will explore local businesses located near the supercharger station, and stop by the Niobrara Electric Association before leaving town.
Groethe and Ditlevson make up the two-person communication team of Stearns Electric Association, an electric cooperative based in Melrose, Minn. Upon arrival in Salt Lake City, Groethe and Ditlevson will share their data and stories from the road at the CONNECT Conference, a national conference for cooperative communicators hosted by the National Rural Electric Association (NRECA).
This research project, coined Road Trip, Recharged: An EV Expedition, is just one of the many stories that will be documented as part of Touchstone Energy Cooperative’s Drive to CONNECT EVent, a pre-conference workshop that aims to gather information on EVs to be used in current and future research regarding electric vehicles.
Although electric cooperatives have been embracing this technology for years, EVs are growing in popularity. As more member-owners are seeking to purchase EVs, co-ops across the country are committed to understanding the full spectrum of this technology. The Drive to Connect EVent is one way co-ops are joining together to celebrate, support and learn about this innovative energy solution.
