LUSK – Every year the fourth weekend in June visitors flood the streets, hotels and fairgrounds of Lusk. They reminisce, laugh and enjoy a weekend of golfing and activities. It is the annual NCHS and Manville Alumni event and is hosted by the Alumni Board. This group of volunteers works hard to create a well coordinated event that serves as both reunion banquet, scholarship fundraiser and celebration.
Almost 200 attendees filled the fairgrounds auditorium for the banquet. The guest speaker was former Superintendent Rick Luchsinger. The meal of chicken fried steak, green beans, mashed potatoes, salad and dessert was catered by Hickory Creek Catering.
Town activities for the weekend included the annual Lusk State Bank barbecue and the Niobrara County Library book sale and ice cream social. Many yard sales were held around town and downtown merchants were offering several sales.
The weekend concluded with the annual Church in the Park event. Coordinated by Mark Lohr, the event brought a morning of worship music to those who attended. Everything from traditional hymns to southern gospel to contemporary Christian music were enjoyed. A potluck lunch was held after the event.
Beautiful weather in the high sixties with a light breeze contributed to a wonderful weekend of events. Many of those who attended the weekend’s festivities commented that they felt so blessed to have graduated from NCHS and were proud to call Lusk their “home town”. Until next year, thank you to the businesses, individuals, and alumni that made the weekend a success.
