Gus Gruwell

Gus Gruwell, 93, passed away on December 16, 2016, at Litchfield Park, AZ. He was born on August 22, 1923, in Fort Bayard, New Mexico to Aaron Card and Wynona Gruwell. 

Gus grew up in Lordsburg, New Mexico, and graduated from Lordsburg High in 1941. He served in the Army at the end of World War II.

Gus married Jeanette Kremer in 1954 in Greeley, CO. They ranched west of Glendo, WY, on the Elkhorn Ranch for 35 years. They were happily married for 63 years.

Gus enjoyed the rodeo life and participating in rodeos. He held Gold Cards in five Rodeo Associations: The Turtles, The Rodeo Cowboys Association, The Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association, United States Team Roping Cowboy Association, and The Senior Pro Rodeo Association. Gus won two World Title, several Reserve Champions, three saddles, and numerous buckles.

Gus is survived by his spouse Jeanette of Rolling Hills, WY; his son Jay (Cindy) of Lusk, WY; his son Jerry of Lusk, WY; his son A.L. of Glendo, WY; his daughter Ruthie (Kevin) Halvorsen of Rolling Hills, WY; and his son Toby (Amy) of Glendo, WY; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

A memorial service will take place at St. Louis Catholic Church, 601 S. 5th Street, Glenrock, WY at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017. Burial will follow the service at Glenrock Cemetery.
