Isaiah 40:31 – But those that wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
The hour is late, and I am tired. Greg is at the vet with a heifer and I am waiting up for him. It’s nothing new for us to wait. Agriculture is a great teacher. We wait for the rains to come, and we wait for the grass to grow. We wait for the wind to blow to turn a windmill and we wait for the wind to lay so that the dirt will quit blowing. We wait for the dew to set on so we can bale hay, and we wait for the dew to dry up so we can do the same. We have waited on this heifer to progress and at the appropriate time got her in to see why things were stalled. She will have to wait a bit longer to meet her baby. We have learned not to get in a hurry because you just can’t hurry these things.
Having grown up in the era of party lines, I learned to wait my turn to use the phone. Having 3 older siblings I learned to wait in line to get in the bathroom. I learned not to get in a hurry because you just can’t hurry these things.
Somehow, I feel like we are out of practice when it comes to waiting. We live in a microwave society where we can have a complete meal in ninety seconds, (and don’t tell me you haven’t opened the door before it was done!) I set my coffee pot to brew at a certain time in the morning so that I don’t have to wait when I get up for my first cup! Seems like we are always in a hurry!
Maybe that’s why we find it hard to wait on God. It is possible you have prayed for healing, and the illness is still there. Perhaps you have prayed for a prodigal child to return and they seem as far away as ever. Whatever the situation, we want an instant, microwave response.
We’re in a hurry God’s not. We have a plan, His is better. I have a timeline, His is perfect. I am learning. Rest and wait on Him. You won’t be sorry you did.
P.S. The heifer has a healthy bull calf. He was worth the wait.
