SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Graveside services for John William Wasserburger will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020, at the Lusk cemetery. John William died in Santa Cruz, on June 12, 2020. He was 85 years old. 

John William was born on July 26, 1934, in Lusk to Henry and Anne Wasserburger. He grew up on the family ranch north of town. He attended Fairview School through middle school and graduated from Niobrara County High School in the class of 1952. He had a brother Henry Jr. who is three-years older and a sister Jean who is five-years younger. 

John went to the University of Wyoming, majoring in English. He was a teacher for a short time in Wyoming then taught in California for 31 years, retiring in 1990. After retiring, he owned and operated a motel, numerous rental properties and an office complex in Fernley, Nevada. John always thought education was very important and sponsored many scholarships in Lusk and Shoshoni, which was one of the schools he taught in. 

John has set up a trust to continue those scholarships after his death. He was very proud of being a Wyoming boy and making it big in California. John was preceded in death by his parents.
