Memorial services for Joseph Patrick Dillon, 78, of Glenrock, Wyoming will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the First Southern Baptist Chapel with the Reverend Jim Ritter officiating. Military honors will be conferred by Jessie Martin American Legion Post No. 9 and the United States Navy Funeral Honors.

Interment will follow at the Dell View Cemetery near Manville, Wyoming.

He died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at his home north of Glenrock of natural causes. 

He was born Wednesday, June 8, 1938 in Manville, the son of Calvin Elias and Rinnie Belle (Brewer) Dillon.

The family moved to Springview, Nebraska when he was very young, and later moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska, where he attended school through the tenth grade.

He enlisted in the United States Navy, served aboard an ammunition ship during the Cuban missile crisis and the Bay of Pigs, earned his GED, and was honorably discharged.

Following his military service he returned to Ainsworth and worked many jobs in construction and the trucking industries.

He met Janice Kay Davis in Ainsworth, and they were married in Pierre, South Dakota in May of 1966.

In 1979, Joe and Janice and their three children moved to Glenrock where he worked at Glenrock Coal Company as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1998.

In his retirement years he was active in many home and ranch projects, often drafting family members to assist in their completion. He ran cows and sheep at times, and they sported the J Bar J brand.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice, of the family home; a daughter, Sarah (Randy) Stalker of Glenrock; two sons, Matthew (Jyll) Dillon of Fort Collins, Colorado and Daniel (Angela) Dillon of Glenrock; grandchildren, Jacob Latimore of Glenrock, Trevor Latimore of Casper, Wyoming, and Rosie and Caleb Dillon of Glenrock; and a sister, Shirley Langer of Lusk, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin, on March 9, 1991; his mother, Rinnie, on March 3, 1983; two brothers, Calvin Dillon and Frank Dillon; and two sisters, Lucille Williams and Coleen Siebken.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate monetary donations to the Helping Hearts Food Bank, P.O. Box 1827, Glenrock, Wyoming 82637.
