LINGLE – Riley Shaw opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, and from there, the Niobrara County girls’ basketball team were off and running at Dogger Gym Friday night.
Shaw, Courtney Rowley and Jozalyn Potter did all the scoring as the Lady Tigers opened a 17-6 first period lead. Rowley’s trey came in the middle of a 17-3 run for the NCHS as the lead became 34-9 at the half.
Rowley converted an old fashioned 3-point play while Bryn Bruch knocked down a long one and suddenly NCHS was up 42-14 over the Lady Doggers. With just one quarter to play, Lusk was cruising with a 48-21 advantage. As the reserves filtered into the final minutes, the Lady Tigers came away with the 56-32 win.

LUSK – On Saturday afternoon at Tiger Gym, the WyoPreps.com No. 4-ranked Moorcroft Lady Wolves wasted little time in showing their speed and shooting prowess. The visitors buried five 3-pointers in the first period and opened a 22-10 lead. As the Lady Tigers struggled with 11 first half turnovers, Moorcroft extended the lead to 19 points.
Shaw’s trey helped trim five points off the lead as NCHS battled to get back in the game. Another Shaw triple and Rowley’s layup and free toss pulled the Lusk girls within ten a couple times as time wound down. It wasn’t enough as Moorcroft went on to the 59-46 win.
In spite of the loss, Rowley put up just the third 20-20 game in Lady Tiger history with 23 points and 23 rebounds. She joins Lisa Arnett (1990-91) and Amanda Smith (2015-16) in the exclusive club.
NCHS faced Guernsey-Sunrise on Monday evening and won easily 50-7. The Lady Tigers improved to 12-6 on the season.
This weekend has the Lady Tigers on the road at Glenrock (JV 3 p.m./varsity 5 p.m.) Friday and Southeast (JV 1 p.m. /varsity 2:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
The junior varsity team lost at Lingle 48-35 as Jaden Stauffer led with seven points. Moorcroft beat Lusk by the slim 44-40 margin as Lily Kruger put in 13 points and followed by Stauffer with 11. The C squad beat Guernsey 15-4 in two quarters.
