Lady Tigers are Guernsey Invite runners-up

Posted

The Tiger Track team has been waiting for a decent track weather day, and the first half of the Guernsey Invite did just that.  With the nice weather came many personal bests for the athletes.

Taylor Gaukel had a great day earning silver in both hurdle races, 4th in the triple jump with a career best 32’ 4” jump, and was a member of the winning 4 X 800 relay team along with Jalyn McDaniel, Miranda Mosley, and Julianne Graham.

Gaukel’s 4 medal day earned her Track Athlete of the Week honors.  She also prequalified in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.65.

Miranda Gilkey also had a fantastic day winning the 300 hurdles (51.13) and triple jump (34’ 7”).  Gilkey won silver in the high jump and bronze in the long jump.  Her 300 hurdle time prequalified her for the state track meet.  She is currently prequalified in three events.

Miranda Mosley placed in all of her events taking silver in the pole vault going 8’ 2”, 6th in the 100 hurdles, and 5th in the 300 hurldles.  Fellow vaulter Jalyn McDaniel earned bronze going 7’ 2”.

The throwers continue to make gains for Coaches Ron Nelson and Joel Richardson as Mackenzie Lyons popped a 32’ 3.25” shot put throw to place 5th.  It was a career best by 2 feet.  Marie Hendrickson made finals in the discus, but just missed the medal stand.

All female throwers including Lyons, Hendrickson, Reygan Molzahn, Esmeralda Caldera, and Jhuritzy Tena all had career bests in one or both of the throwing events.

“I’m not sure what Coach Nelson is putting in the water down there, but he sure has his throwers making some nice strides.”

The girls’ team placed second as a team scoring 83 points to place second behind Gordon-Rushville.

One highlight of the boys was hurdler Traylin Bruegger who placed 3rd in the 300 race (44.57) and 5th in the 110 race (18.80).  He also went over 36’ in the triple jump for the first time ever.

Thrower Jake Heil continued his hot streak as he made finals in both events.  He placed 5th in the discus throwing 111’ 7”, and threw just over 40’ in the shot to finish 7th.

Jacob Muir had a nice day as he had 2 career bests.  He took 4 seconds off his best mile time and placed 5th in the pole vault going 9’ 8”.  His efforts earned him Track Athlete of the Week.

The boys 4 X 400 relay of Bruegger, James Stone, Wyatt Stauffer, and Teagan Tschacher placed 3rd, just edging out rival Lingle in a time of 4:04.

The 4 X 100 relay of Kade Clark, Zach Vandeberg, Kaden Gaukel, and Damien Molzahn earned a 5th place medal in a time of 53.07.

The boys team scored 19.5 points to place 9th.  The Tigers will travel to Glenrock on Thursday.
