PINE BLUFFS – The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets used an early 5-0 lead to take control last Friday evening to drop the Niobrara County girls’ team to 1-1 in quadrant play.

Despite a Lily Krueger 3-pointer, the Lady Tigers were in a 13-6 hole after one period.

The Lady Tigers clawed back, and Krueger’s triple gave Lusk a 17-15 lead, albeit briefly. Despite six turnovers, the Hornets responded and took a two-point lead into the break.

With the aid of several NCHS turnovers, Pine Bluffs used a 12-2 run to create some space on the scoreboard. The lackluster offense by the Lady Tigers, and a still recovering Courtney Rowley saw the home team go up 35-24 after three quarters.

Riley Shaw scored an old fashioned three and sank two long bombs to keep NCHS within five points as time wound down. The Lady Hornets used a 7-1 run to finish off the game in the 50-39 final score.

The Lady Tigers led early, and it looked like a rout was in the making as Rowley’s trey helped Lusk to a 13-4 lead after one period. Anna Richardson’s jumper and converted free throw moved the score to 18-9 but chipped one point off that for the 20-12 halftime score.

The Lady Bulldogs closed the gap to get within three points entering the final frame and overtook Lusk 26-25 just two minutes into the fourth. The lead went back and forth until Bryn Bruch tied it at 31 and Rowley’s breakaway layup sealed the 36-32 win.
