Lady Tigers get two wins at Herder Classic

Posted

x Even though this is only the first week of games, it would not be surprising to see Big Horn, Wright or Greybull again later in the postseason.

Against a drastically different looking team that won state nine months ago, Lusk scored first and never let the Lady Rams take a lead. The score was 12-6 after one but BH battled back to within two at halftime. Trisha Hales sank a three pointer that helped extend the lead to 37-30 after three. The Lady Rams made a furious comeback but Miranda Gilkey scored nine of her 14 points in the final frame to ensure the 50-47 victory.

Christianson had the hot hand all afternoon as a weary Lusk team battled Greybull just two hours after the Wright game. The junior buried four free throws and a basket to help NCHS to the 10-3 lead. But the Lady Buffs charged back in the second quarter with a 17-7 run to take the 20-17 lead. Gilkey kept the Lady Tigers close with a pair of triples but after three stanzas the lead was 32-25 for Greybull. Gilkey and Christianson combined for nine points in the fourth but it wasn’t enough as Greybull escaped with the 43-40 win.
