Lady Tigers split weekend with NE rivals

Posted

Fri. evening at Tiger Gym, the Lady Tigers faced a Moorcroft team that defeated NCHS 2-1 at the Big Horn tournament. The Lady Wolves took the first set 25-15 but had to work harder in the second set. Lusk’s biggest lead was 16-12 before Moorcroft slipped ahead 21-20 and held on for the 25-23 win.

NCHS jumped ahead 10-2 in the third set and never looked back in the 25-15 win. As with the previous set, the fourth saw the Lady Tigers get a lead and fight off every run the visitors made. 6-2 became 12-5 and 19-8 forced a timeout from Moorcroft. It wasn’t enough as Kianna Blackburn and Anna Richardson had key serves and Bryn Bruch helped finish off the 25-12 win.

With a fifth set looming, all the momentum was clearly with Lusk. The Lady Tigers moved the ball in an early 9-3 lead before another visitor timeout. Despite a comeback attempt, Moorcroft couldn’t get it done as NCHS pulled away for the 15-7 win.

Sat.’s trip to defending state champ Sundance featured drastically different rosters than when the teams faced off last season. Both teams are rebuilding while staying competitive in their conferences with Regionals coming in two short weeks. The home team took a close 25-21 first set before NCHS rebounded to tie the match at one with a 25-22 win. The Lady Bulldogs were just a few steps ahead of Lusk over the next two sets as they took the match 3-1 with 25-17 and 25-18 scores.
