LUSK – The Niobrara County High School girls’ basketball teams home weekend was very similar to when they made road trips to Glenrock and Yoder last month.
The Lady Herders popped a couple of early 3-pointers and went up 6-1 before holding a 7-5 lead after the first period. Riley Shaw tied the game at 13 with a trey, but the visitors got a buzzer-beater for the slim 20-18 halftime lead.
Coming out of the locker room Glenrock went on an 8-0 run, opening up a 31-22 lead entering the final frame. But the veteran Lady Tigers chipped away at the lead, and Danni Larson’s short jumper and free throw tied the game at 31 with 3:35 to play.
Back and forth the teams went until Courtney Rowley’s basket gave NCHS a lead with 14 seconds remaining. The Lady Herders missed a 3-point attempt and putback as Lusk held on for the 37-35 win.

Saturday was no different as the Lady Tigers took the upper hand with an 11-7 first quarter lead. Anna Richardson’s trey followed by a score from Rowley pushed the lead to 10 points before a late basket got the Lady Cyclones within 24-16 at the break.
The visitors doubled up Lusk in the third period and managed to tie the game at 32. Shaw splashed a pair of triples, but Southeast made a late 12-7 run to overtake NCHS in the 48-43 final score.
