Lady Tigers take third place at Big Horn tourney

The NCHS volleyball team continued to prove themselves in this young season with a solid weekend at the Big Horn tournament. In Friday’s bracket play the Lady Tigers opened with a pair of wins over conference rival (in a non-conference game) Glenrock 25-22 and 25-17. Next up was Rocky Mountain and NCHS split with the Lady Grizz 22-25 and 25-17. The third match of the day was against the home team and a tired group of Lusk girls came up just short 25-21 and 25-22.

NCHS was one of the top eight teams and placed in the maroon bracket for Saturday, but the first opponent happened to be defending state champs Wright. While the Lady Panthers lost a lot to graduation and their head coach bolted to Thunder Basin, they are still one of the best teams in the state. NCHS held their own in a pair of close losses 25-19 and 25-23.

Into the loser bracket, Lusk responded with a two set win over Upton 25-18 and 25-22, before claiming the third place finish with a three set win over Lovell. The Lady Tigers took the first set 25-22 before Lovell won the second 25-16. In the third set, Lusk was dominant from the start and won easily 15-6, and improved to 8-2 on the season.

The JV also went to Big Horn and were matched up against Glenrock, RM and BH on Friday. The Lady Herders won 21-15 and 21-19, while Lusk split with RM (21-10 and 12-21). Against the host team NCHS came up short 21-17 and 21-16. On Saturday they weren’t ready for Wright in losing 21-6 twice. Upton also got the best of Lusk 21-14 and 21-18 before a split with Lovell (21-10 and 14-21).

This week Lingle-Ft. Laramie visits Tiger Gym Friday afternoon for games starting at 3, 4 and 5 p.m. On Saturday is the Lusk Invitational with action getting underway at both gyms at 9 a.m.
