Local athletes medal at Special Olympics

CASPER – Niobrara county was well represented at the Special Olympics Fall Tournament 2022 in Casper Oct. 6 and 7. 

Four players played Bocce in the singles division. There was only one other athlete in bocce and she was from Jackson Hole. The Niobrara team traveled to Casper on Thursday and each player played two rounds.

Results from Thursday:

• Zeke Spaulding lost both of his rounds Thursday

• Isaac Bauersachs won both of his rounds Thursday

• Marcus Broberg won both of his rounds Thursday

Friday results:

• In a good match up on Friday, Bauersachs lost to Broberg by only a handful of points to have Broberg move onto the championship match.

• Spaulding lost to the Jackson hole athlete, seating him for the silver medal in his division on Friday. Levi Burnie lost his match giving him 4th in his division.

• Broberg lost in his championship game and gained 2nd in his division. Bauersachs got 3rd in his division.

The students had fun after bocce enjoying some ice cream as well as playing at the park. Participant Marcus Broberg stated, “I liked bocce and winning second.”

Athletes from the Niobrara program will participate in the spring tournament as well.
