On September 6, 2018, the Supreme President of the Benevolent, Patriotic Order of Does, Carla La Poma of Oklahoma City Drove #259, Oklahoma, will arrive in Lusk for the Wyoming State Meeting hosted by Lusk Drove #64.  She will be accompanied by Past Supreme President Roberta Reichert of Rapid City Drove #33, South Dakota.  Additionally, Past Supreme President Patricia Kloberdanz, Sidney Drove #94, Nebraska, will be attending. There will be a no-host reception at the Elks Lodge that evening for our Supreme President, Past Supreme Presidents, and local and visiting Does.

Carla’s color this year is Teal, with the Butterfly as her symbol.  Her theme for the year is “INSPIRE” and her song is “You Raise Me Up”.  Carla strongly believes in the Constitution and Rituals of the DOES.  She believes if we all strive to INSPIRE someone each and every day and remember what INSPIRED us when we first joined the DOES; and keep that at the forefront of our minds we can continue to build this great Organization.

Supreme President Carla was born in Altus, Oklahoma.  She is the oldest of three children and has one brother and one sister.

When she was eight Carla’s family moved to the state of Washington where her father pastored several churches throughout the state.  Their family returned to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to be closer to family at the beginning of her senior year of school.  After graduation Carla moved to Oklahoma City where she still resides.

Carla entered the accounting field at the age of 19 as an accounts payable clerk, she is currently the Director of Finance for Total Medical Personnel Staffing a statewide temporary service for the medical field.

In her early twenties Carla was blessed with her son Alan and three years later with her daughter Amanda.  In 1988 she married the love of her life Ted LaPoma and together they became a family of four.   One of Carla’s greatest blessings is being Nana to five granddaughters.

Carla Joined the Oklahoma City Drove in June of 2006 and immediately went in as Color Bearer No. 3, then went to Conductor where she fell in love with the Rituals.  She has been in every position in her Drove with the exception of Secretary and Treasurer.  Carla received her password from PSP Pat Kloberdanz in 2010 at Ashville North Carolina.  She was elected as Supreme Outer Guard in 2012 in Reno, Nevada.  She has served as Guards’ Assistant and Attendant to the President-Elect on the Grand Lodge floor.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing golf, planting flowers in the spring, spending time with family and taking weekend road trips with Ted or the girls.

Official activities begin with the Friday Night Opening Session September 7 at 5:30 at the Elks Lodge.  This is open to the public, and we invite you to join us.  We will be honoring our Flag, Departed DOES, and Departed Elks.  That will be followed by dinner and entertainment.

Saturday morning the DOES will gather for their meeting and a School of Instruction.  Following the meeting there is lunch and a surprise event.  The afternoon will be free time for our guests to explore our community and businesses.

Saturday evening there will be a social hour and formal banquet.  Entertainment will be by the Silver Cliff Crooners.  After the banquet, there will be entertainment by the Time Line Band.

Things will wind up Sunday morning with a farewell breakfast.
