Eight contestants from Niobrara County competed for top honors at the annual District 10 Make It with Wool (MIWW) Contest held on Sunday, November 5th at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds.  The annual contest was coordinated by Denise Smith, District 10 MIWW Director.

The contestants were judged by a panel of three judges on the presentation and construction of their wool creations.  This year’s judges were Erin Smith, Chrisanna Lund and Kellie Chichester.

Contestants were judged in four different divisions including Pre-Teen (ages 12 and under), Junior (ages 13-16), Adult and Knitted/Crocheted.

Winners in the various divisions include: Pre-Teen- Heidi DesEnfants, Junior- Adelle DesEnfants, Adult- Merlo Schardt and Knitted/Crocheted- Merlo Schardt. Emily ZumBrunnen won the award for the “Favorite Outfit”.  This award is voted on by all of the contestants.

Other Niobrara County contestants included Melody ZumBrunnen, Karen Schardt and Gracie ZumBrunnen.  Those contestants qualifying for the State Make it With Wool Contest that will be held in Casper during the annual Wyoming Stockgrowers and Wyoming Wool Growers Convention on November 26th and 27th are Adelle DesEnfants and Melody ZumBrunnen in the Junior Division and Merlo Schardt in the Knitted/Crocheted Division.

For competing in the contest, each of the contestants received a 2 1/2 yard length of Pendleton wool.  Thank you goes to this year’s contest donors: Niobrara County Fair Board, Mike and Linda Kane, Niobrara County 4-H Council and Niobrara County Homemakers.

During the afternoon the contestants were involved in a pillow case workshop led by Vivian Fahy. Each of the contestants sewed  pillow cases to give to all of the residents of the Nursing Home.  After completing the pillow cases, the contestants went to the Nursing Home and personally presented each resident with their one of a kind creations.  The contestants then each sewed a special sheep pillow case for themselves that they got to take home.  Delicious refreshments were served to the contestants and audience after the evening style show and awards presentation.

The 2018 District 10 Contest will be held next November again in Niobrara County.
