WHEATLAND – The Niobrara County High School track and field team made their first of two trips to Wheatland on Friday. 

Jasper Caldera continued to lead the way for the Tigers, winning the discus with a throw of 140 feet, 6 inches and placing second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 46-7 1/2.

Fellow thrower Dylan Molzahn was right on the heels of Caldera placing fifth in the discus, going almost 112 feet and was third in the shot put 46-2. His shot put mark pre-qualifies him for state. This dual of throwers is currently at the top of the 2A throwing charts.

High jumper Renae Marker continued to place towards the top of her event earning silver by clearing 4-10 and prequalifying for state.

Freshman sprinter Mel Zumbrunnen had another great day. She placed third in the 200-meter dash in 28.74 seconds and fourth in the 100-meter dash in 13.71 seconds.

Lady Tiger thrower Anna Richardson continues to shine, placing fifth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 31-9 and third in the discus with 89-7.

Senior Aric Eaton found his groove in the pole vault going 10-10 in the pole vault for eighth place. Eaton, along with Cody Taylor, Collin Taylor and Mason Wells, finished eighth in the 4x100-meter relay. The 4x400-meter relay team of Taylor, Taylor, David West and Caleb Miller also placed eighth.

The Tigers travel back to Wheatland on Saturday for the Wheatland Invite.
