NCHS Chapter participates in National FFA week

Posted

“To promote FFA and inform people what FFA is and does” is a cumulative answer of the Niobrara County High School (NCHS) FFA Club Officer team and their leader/coach, Jason Hubbard as the purpose of FFA Week. Future Farmers of America, otherwise referred to as the acronym FFA, NCHS Chapter participated in the National FFA week from February 17th thru February 24th. The overall goal of the week was to incite more members to join the club, work successfully with other clubs, and also spread the word on why FFA is important and how it is relevant in today’s world, “Having FFA now, it brings back the agricultural tradition in our school.  An adult could further their skills in agriculture across the board.  They could also learn more about the technology used in today’s agriculture every day.  Kids could learn anything from the digestive system of cows to shop skills” states the officer team.

Not everyone at NCHS is a participate of FFA, in order to get everyone involved in the event, the FFA Chapter came up with a week of dress codes and activities: Monday : Official Dress day for members and blue and gold for student body.  Oreo snack for teachers and fun fact about Presidents ’ Day, Tuesday: dress like a farmer; FFA also attended the commissioner’s meeting where they declared February 17-24th as FFA week in Lusk, Wednesday: Dress like an animal or bring your pillow pet, district speech. Breakfast from Tuesday was rescheduled due to weather to Wednesday, and Thursday : wear your pearl snap or flannel shirt. FFA worked in conjunction with other NCHS clubs including Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), and Close-Up. Together with FCCLA, the FFA Chapter made and hosted a dinner for the school board before their Monday night meeting. Per the officer team, the initiative of working with the different clubs was, “To try to get more members involved and work with other people”. It is also worth noting that a student could be a member of one or all of the various clubs.

Passed FFA Week, the chapter will look to further education of why FFA is important and knowledge learned by, “We can continue to put articles in the paper, keep our Facebook page up to date on current events as well as upcoming events”, adding, “Thank you for the support throughout the community as we grow our chapter.  Agriculture is the future of our world and it is important that we as youth continue to carry on some of the greatest American traditions”.
