LUSK – The Niobrara County High School volleyball girls have hit a rough patch in their schedule as they continue to adjust to life without injured senior Courtney Rowley.

Sioux County, Neb., visited Tiger Gym on Thursday night, and the Lady Tigers led from the start of the first set. Anna Richardson was dealing aces, and Lusk led 12-8 before the visitors tied it a 15 and 20. A sudden surge by the Lady Warriors and they stole the first set 25-20 from NCHS.

Sioux County used that momentum into the second set as they raced to a 6-1 start.

Communication errors and inconsistent play hurt the Lady Tigers, as the visitors pushed the lead to a dozen. Moments later the Lady Warriors won 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set was tied at five before the visitors went on an 11-0 run. NCHS tried to come back but the deficit was too much in the 25-11 final score.

NCHS TEAM STATS: Serving 39/47, 83 pct, 8 aces. 11 kill/77 atts. Assists 10. Stuff blocks 4. 99 digs/143 atts 69 pct.

On Saturday afternoon, Southeast visited, and the first set was close until the Lady Cyclones made a 7-2 run. Larson helped close the gap to 18-15 with back to back kills but Southeast won 25-15.

Southeast took the early second set lead at 9-4 and did just enough to stay ahead in the 25-17 final. Both teams showed fatigue and it kept NCHS a bit closer than during the first two sets. An 8-4 run by Southeast was enough to finish off the Lady Tigers in the 25-14 three-set win.

NCHS TEAM STATS: Serving 42/46 91 pct. 14 kills/71 atts. Assists 14. Stuff blocks 3. 96 digs/136 atts, 71 pct.

The JV played two exciting sets against the Lady Warriors, coming up short 25-23 and 30-28. Their match against Southeast went three sets but the visitors escaped with the 25-21, 16-25, 25-17 victory.

This week NCHS hosts Lingle-Fort Laramie on Friday for Homecoming with C squad starting at 3 p.m. On Saturday, they visit Harrison for a rematch with the Lady Warriors, as JV starts at noon.
