NCHS girls struggle at L-FL tourney

LINGLE – The Niobrara County High School volleyball team got the season underway last Friday at the Lingle-Fort Laramie tournament.

They faced Upton in the first match and fell 25-14 and 25-7, before playing the defending state 2A champ Sundance. The two sets were closer as the Lady Tigers fell in matching 25-15 scores.

Against Kaycee, NCHS struggled early and lost the first set by a 25-6 score, yet the second set was a 25-13 defeat. The final match of the day was against Hulett and the Lady Tigers played within a 25-20 score before faltering in the second set 25-11.

NCHS TEAM STATS: 93/112 serving. 22 kills. 19 assists. 6 stuff blocks. 143/207 digs.

The younger girls went to Newcastle last Saturday and in pool play they defeated Buffalo 22-20 and 20-8. Campbell County got the best of Lusk with 20-6 and 20-10 scores before Sundance won 20-13 and 20-12. The Lady Tigers were put in the Bronze bracket and defeated Glenrock 11-3, 11-8 and another matchup with Buffalo saw Lusk come out on top 13-11, 11-9 to win the Bronze bracket.

NCHS hosts Crawford, Nebraska on Thursday evening with JV at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6. On Friday they visit Guernsey-Sunrise with matches beginning at 1:30 p.m.
