LUSK – Last Monday evening the senior parents held a small get-together to conclude the 2020 volleyball season.
After the meal, Niobrara County High School head coach Sandra Johnson, with assistants Andie Hubbard and Cora Fitzgerald handed out team awards.
Seniors Renae Marker, Anna Richardson and Riley Shaw were named to the 2A East All-Conference team. Richardson was a repeat selection from 2019. Richardson, Shaw and Courtney Rowley received white letters for four years of varsity, while classmates Marker, Bryn Bruch and Danni Larson and junior Jaden Stauffer each earned their third. Junior Adelle DesEnfants and sophomores Evelyn DesEnfants, Lily Krueger and Larkin Williams picked up their second varsity letter. First time winners included four freshmen; Phoebe Allbright, Avree Blair, Hattie Nelson and Melody Zumbrunnen.
Varsity award winners included: Serving – Krueger 97/108 attempts, 90 percent. Setting – Shaw 98 assists. Blocking – Marker 47 stuff blocks. Kills – Marker 70/290 atts, 24 percent. Aces – Richardson 29/159 attempts, 23 percent. Digs – Shaw 212/269, 79 percent. Serve/receive- Richardson 219/257, 85 percent.
Hubbard presented the junior varsity awards: Serving – Nelson 77/83, 93 percent. Setting – E. DesEnfants 39 assists. Kills – Stauffer 31/134, 23 percent. Aces – E. DesEnfants 21 aces, 32 percent. Digs- Blair 30/38, 79 percent. Serve/receive – Williams 130/165, 79 percent.
Sophomores Elyse Richards and Jazmine Ladwig and freshmen Karolyse McCully, Selene Lemons, Destiny Swartwood and Serenity Reynolds all received JV letters.
Fitzgerald read a poem to her ‘C’ squad girls and gave out a pair of awards. Nelson received the all-around player, and Blair was most improved.
