NCHS Speech & Debate conclude another successful year

Posted

The culmination of all your hard work is brought to light on Awards Banquet night. For the Speech & Debate team, that night is “Dessert & A Dissertation”. Their awards night was held last Thursday, April 5, at the LEMS library. As anyone who knows the speech team can tell you, food is almost always first and foremost with the group, and this night always promises a variety of sweets. After opening greetings, everyone lines up and selects their delacasies for the evening. After everyone has been through the line and are enjoying their treats, Coach Norma Langston will call on her team, on at a time, to talk about their chosen forum or to recite their performance piece, after which, awards, pins and letters are handed out .

This year, there were eight students on the team; Senior- Traylin Bruegger; Juniors- Alli McElroy and Kylie Strauch; Sophomore- Ben Currier; and Freshmen- Amanda Hicks, Dalton Larson, Chance Richardson and Deanna West. Seven of these competed at State in Lander, WY and five of the team were All-State Recipients. Those five are as follows:

Traylin Bruegger and Alli McElroy - 2nd place for 1A/2A schools in Public Forum Debate

Kylie Strauch – 2nd place for 1A/2A schools in Lincoln Douglas Debate

Ben Currier – 3rd place for 1A/2A schools in Extemporaneous Speaking

Dalton Larson – 3rd place for 1A/2A schools in Informative Speaking

Assistant Coach, Cara Bandalos, was awarded the 1A/2A Coach of the Season!

This is an award that is nominated by fellow Wyoming speech & debate coaches and voted on by all the speech and debate coaches in the state of Wyoming.

“It was a stellar year!!!!” said Langston.

Congratulations on an outstanding season and all your awards. All the hours and hard work has paid off again.
