NCHS Tiger track team competes well at Burns Invite

The Tiger track teams had a great Thursday competing at the Burns Invite.  Both teams placed 4th overall in the team standings, with the boys scoring 82.25 and the girls 82.

The boys had two additional individuals prequalify for state.  Thrower Jake Heil had a day of personal bests where he earned silver in the shot put, throwing a qualifying mark of 45’ 11.25”.  This was his best all time by over a foot.  He also threw 124’ 10” in the discus to place 4th.  

Traylin Bruegger also had an excellent day placing 2nd in the 110 hurdles in a qualifying time of 16.90.  Bruegger also placed 2nd in the 300 hurdle race in 44.64.  

Alec Penfield was the lone gold winner for the boys as he cleared 6’ 2” in the high jump for a personal best, defeating Wyoming football recruit Haize Fornstrom for the gold.  

Wyatt Stauffer had the best day of his sophomore track campaign where he placed 5th in both the high jump and 300 hurdles and 7th in the 110 hurdles.

Kade Clark ran a personal best time in the 200 going 25.71 to place 6th.  800 runner James Stone placed 6thwhile teammate Tyler Basile placed 7th.  Fellow distance runner Will Fish finished 7th in the 3200.  

The field events continue to be strong for the Tigers as Aric Eaton placed 3rd in pole vault going a personal best 10’ 1” and Zach Vandeberg placed tied for 6th in pole vault going 8’ 1”.

Teagan Tschacher placed 7th in high jump while Drake Lamp long jumped almost 18’ to place 5th.  

The boys’ relays had a nice day.  The 4 X 100 relay of Lamp, Clark, Bruegger, and Damien Molzahn earned bronze in a time of 48.69 while the 4 X 400 relay of Eaton, Stauffer, Penfield, and Stone placed 5th in a time of 4:09.

The sprint medley ran a great race to place second, but were disqualified due to a poor exchange.  

The girls had several individuals who had outstanding performances also.  

Miranda Gilkey continued her golden streak as she won the high jump again going 5’ 2”.  Her best effort of the year so far, came in the triple jump where she went 35’ 6” to win the event by a foot and a half.  Gilkey also earned gold in 300 hurdles in a time of 51.09.  Her lone silver of the day came in the long jump where she jumped 15’ 3.5”.

Taylor Gaukel also had a great day in her field events where she prequalified in the long jump going almost 16’ to win that event.  She also earned silver in the triple jump going 33’ 11.5”.  Gaukel placed 7th in the 100 hurdle race after a rough start to the race.

Thrower Mackenzie Lyons had a nice day also as she prequalified in the shot put throwing 33’ 10” to earn bronze in that event.  She also threw just shy of 92’ in the discus to place 5th.  

Courtney Rowley continues to help the Tigers as she placed 4th in the 200 in a time of 30.28, 5th in the 100 hurdles in 18.77, and 7th in the 300 hurdles in 55.79.

Allison Williams broke out this weekend making the finals in both the 100 and 200 sprint races.  Williams placed 7th in the 200 and 8th in the 100.  

Reygan Molzahn rounded out the scoring for the Tigers placing 8th in the discus with a throw of 86’ 4”.

The Tigers have a busy week with the throwers going to Douglas on Tuesday, the Pine Bluffs Invite on Thursday, and weather permitting, the Upton Invite on Saturday.
