NCSD #1 names students of the quarter

Posted

Jake Heil, Evelyn DesEnfants, and Archer Widrick were named NCSD students of the quarter for Niobrara County High School, Lusk Middle School, and Lusk Elementary School respectively. Each student was nominated by their teacher for the award for their outstanding aptitude in the following areas: respect for others, high academic motivation, exceptional moral character, generosity towards others, and courage in the face of adversity.

Jake Heil attends Niobrara County High School; he is the son of Steve and Ingrida Heil. Heil was nominated by his teacher Cara Bandalos. In her recommendation letter, Bandalos commended Heil in that, “Jake is one of the most dedicated, intelligent, and determined students I’ve ever taught.  No matter what is put in front of him in terms of academic work, he completes it with ease and goes above and beyond.  Every. Single. Time”.  Bandalos also added, “Jake is constantly involved: from sports to activities, he’s taking part, helping himself and those around him become the best they can…All of our students are exceptional in their own ways but Jake is something else entirely.  He’s the student and participant that we read about in success stories, the one we all hope (and, sometimes, fortunately get) to have at least once in our careers”.

Evelyn DesEnfants attends Lusk Elementary/Middle School; she is the daughter of Ty and Sarah DesEnfants. DesEnfants’ teacher is Karla VandeBossche, whom nominated her for DesEnfants’ ability to integrate herself into the schools system after coming to the school this fall. In her nomination letter, VandeBossche also applauded DesEnfants on the following, “She is a very positive person and does a nice job on the sporting fields as well as in the classroom… While she was working on her [science] fair project, she came in numerous times on her own to ask questions and make sure she was on the right track.  She takes a very active part in her learning and is always willing to help herself and others.  She constantly has a smile on her face and is a pleasure to have in class.  She is a great role model for possessing and applying the skills and characteristics needed to be a great student”.

Archer Widrick attends Lusk Elementary/Middle School; he is the son of Brandi Jensen. Widrick is taught and was nominated by Lisa Pischel. Widrick, who has a high list of extra-curricular clubs and boards, including the Environmental Committee for the new playground, was described with the following traits by Pischel in her nomination letter, “kind, creative, hardworking, intelligent and confident.  He is very respectful to his teachers and peers”. The Seven Habits are an integral part of NCSD’s education platform, in her letter, Pischel praised Widrick for, “Archer not only knows the Seven Habits he lives the Seven Habits”.

Letters were sent to the parents of each child containing what the teachers had written about their student. Heil, DesEnfants, and Widrick were all invited to the February 27 school board meeting to be honored in a ‘modest ceremony’ by the board of trustees.
