Whenever conversation lags, we can rely on the weather for a good starter. It has been said lately in North Dakota that they know it’s really cold if a snowman knocks on the door and wants to come in. That is cold! When ranchers have to work barehanded on demanding outdoor jobs and their fingers get frostbitten and turn black, that’s too cold too. Unfortunately, that has been the case in Wyoming in recent days and it is already time to go to daylight saving time. I thought that was when it was the beginning of spring weather. It will be welcome.

Birthdays are celebrated at the Niobrara Senior Center with a musical wish sung by everyone and a lit candle on a huge cupcake. The birthday celebrant (who must also meet the requirement of being a Senior person over 60 years of age) also gets to be first in line to fill their dinner tray for a free meal that day. The Center is getting a new, fresh look with rearranged bookcases, offices, new tables, etc., making it a very inviting place to dine, bring friends to play cards, participate in activities. Upcoming events include the St. Patrick’s dinner and dance on Friday, March 15 at 5:00 p.m. and a bus trip to Torrington on Saturday, March 30, to attend the matinee performance by the Goshen Community Theatre production of “Steele Magnolias.” Inquiries are welcomed; call 334-2561 for details.

John and Diane Cannon have enjoyed time with family this past fall as well as recent months. In the fall, they took a trip to Denver to celebrate their daughter, Amber’s graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. She is now employed by Vibra Hospital, providing rehabilitation for patients. While in Denver, the family took a tour of the Denver Aquatic Center, an amazing display of sea life. About three weeks ago, they drove to Casper to attend the Lost Arrow Archery Shoot. John and Diane had fun participating in the Senior Class, while their son-in-law Dallas Terrill, participated in the Hunter Class. Their daughter, Brandy, and children, Daysha, and Parker, watched the competition. Later, Daysha, now 13, enjoyed time at the Eastridge Mall, while brother Parker, at age 9, prefers video gaming. The family stayed over at a motel and dined at Red Lobster.
