On July 27, Marlin and Dawn Godfrey assisted by the members of Frances Tschacher’s family held a wonderful evening of celebration for her 90th birthday. A potluck was enjoyed followed by a dance, on the Godfrey Ranch south of Manville, which was filled with over two hundred friends, gathered to wish her well. Music was provided by the Timeline Band (Paul Parmely and Lois Ladwig), in the barn, which was lit up with festive lights. The honoree, Frances, danced every dance and was one of the last to leave. Family members had come from many states to enjoy the party.

The Niobrara County Fair is already in the history books. The Luau theme was a wonderful idea reflected in the booths and on the parade floats. Lots of beautiful entries and good food as always. The quality of the 4-H entries was outstanding thanks to the leaders who give so freely of their time and support of parents, who encourage their children to participate.

The Niobrara Senior Center recognized the many past and present members of the Board of Directors at a special luncheon on Thursday, August 1. The members were announced by the current Director, Donna Ruffing, with credit given to numerous ones who have given their talents and time over and beyond through the years to make it the fine facility it has become. A delicious prime rib dinner was served by the kitchen staff immediately following. A new feature being enjoyed is a salad bar providing added variations to the menus.

The Niobrara Hospital District held a car wash on Friday, August 2, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. It was fun to have so many adults and children having such a good time cleaning my car and they did a fine job. It was in appreciation for the volunteers who have given of their time to help the medical facility. My volunteer hours were as much fun for me as for the residents. I played piano for the diners during their supper hour for several years, played cards with some of the residents to help keep them involved, helped inventory medical supplies for a time, etc. (and I hoped I’d never need to have some of the stuff used on me like needles, etc!)
