Music to my ears!! The sound of the Town of Lusk rotary snow plow going by and picking up the ridge of piled high snow in the middle of the street on a Saturday when the hard-working town employees are usually “off” for the weekend. Many Thanks to those who made sure travel was safe for Lusk residents. The time was well-spent while homebound after the snowstorm. I made several kinds of cookies, including pecan grahams.

After spending a week in New York City, N.Y., Scott and Ainslie (Judd) Olney, of Perth, Australia, arrived late Monday evening from DIA for a two-day visit with Phyllis Hahn before continuing to Casper, where they planned to connect with her exchange student sponsor, Judy Chapman of Washington and her Wyoming “sister’, Miranda Berdahl and family and Colorado “sister” Tasha Moreno of Denver, Colo. The couple enjoyed visits with more American friends, Candy Dooper and Roger and Pam Peterson, while in Lusk. It was interesting to learn after serving the Australians an American menu with pecan grahams for dessert, they do not have graham crackers in Australia!

The American Legion Ferdinand Brandstetter Post #1 and their Auxiliary Unit #1 of Van Tassell met Saturday, March 23, in the Van Tassell Town Hall. The meetings were preceded by a carry-in dinner at noon. The groups met separately, with Commander Dale Miller presiding over the Post meeting and President Phyllis Hahn presiding over the Auxiliary meeting. The Post worked toward their upcoming celebration of the American Legion Centennial, which will be held June 29 at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds. The Auxiliary discussed ways to serve veterans needs in various ways from sending money and cookies to a VA Hospital to possibly funding travel to medical appointments. Funding a girl in the Junior class as a delegate to Girls State has also been important. Interested students, who are enrolled in NCHS, are home-schooled or in a junior year of their high school education through online study, may contact Phyllis Hahn before the first week of April, if interested. The cost is paid by the sponsoring Auxiliary.
