LUSK- Every year the Black Hills Stock Show Youth Day hosts a Youth Livestock Judging event in Rapid City. This year the Niobrara county 4-H Livestock program was well represented by 12 youth participants. The Youth Day event has grown in popularity over the last few years with over 200 4-H members from across Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska competing in multiple age divisions. Participants evaluated 6 classes consisting of breeding heifers, breeding ewes, breeding gilts, market hogs, breeding does, and prospect heifers. They were also required to present one or two rounds of oral reasons and answer questions based on their age division. Individually from Niobrara County, Kylie Strauch placed 4th overall in the Senior Division and Wyatt Strauch placed 3rd overall in Beginner Division. In addition to competing in the contest, 4-H members participated in a team-building exercise at Jump Craze, building friendships with other 4-H members from the tri-state area. Attending the Black Hills Stock Show was also a highlight of the trip for many of the members.
