Posted

Danny Cushman, Niobrara County Friends of the NRA Chairman, was on hand at the May 6, 2018 ATA (American Trap Shooting Association) Shoot held at the Niobrara Sportsman’s Club to present the club with two checks. The monetary donations are from the Friends of the NRA (National Rifle Association) Banquet held annually at the Fairgrounds in the fall. As Cushman explained it, the monies raised go back to the foundation and then he writes grants to bring monies back for local organizations. May 6, Cushman presented both checks to Niobrara Sportsman’s Club President, Royce Thompson and Treasurer, Richard Pullen. The checks, one for $5,925.15 and another for $1,998.00, will go towards the purchases of blue rock clay targets and a lighting system for one of the trap fields, respectively.

In addition to the presentation of the checks, the Niobrara Sportsman’s Club held their first ATA shoot for the year. The shoot is a member-only shoot, A twenty-dollar due fee could be paid with registration at the shoot, although membership to Niobrara Sportsman’s Club is not required. “This shoot is the most ATA shooter’s we’ve had in a few years” commented club president Thompson, withroughly thirty-two shooters. Squads of singles were seven, squads of handicap were seven, and squads of doubles were six. Those who partook in the shoot enjoyed a catered lunch by Hickory Creek Catering and winners received eagle-engraved knives sporting ‘Niobrara Sportsman’s club 2018”. A ladies silver bracelet with gold shooter was also on hand.

On May 19, a clean-up day will be held at the Sportsman’s Club to prepare the trap houses and the grounds for this years’ Trap League. The league will start on May 24. Memberships to the Niobrara Sportsman’s Club are required for league shoot with single memberships, $20.00 and family, $40.00. League also costs $8.00 a week and teams must consist of five members. The Niobrara Sportsman’s Club Trap League will run for roughly ten weeks, depending on the amount of teams, notes Thompson.
