Niobrara Strong Day this weekend

“Persistence is to the character of man as carbon is to steel” – Napoleon Hill.

June 4, 2018 will be the three year mark from the 2015 flood that caused so much damaged to Niobrara County. While recovery efforts were strong and Niobrara County has powered through, a silver lining came when the first Niobrara Strong Day was celebrated in 2016, one year after the flood. The original celebration was held on main street and third street, two areas the devastating waters touched in a triumphant, ‘We’re still here and we’re stronger than ever together’ theme. That year featured inflatable rides, face painting, and other fun activities. The second year was the same and just as highly attended as the first. The third year, this year, the event will move to North Side Park and will feature a slew of new and old activities. The inflatable rides will make their appearance again, kicking off at 10:00AM—along with most of the other activities including face painting, and, new this year, a dunk tank where Amy Swisher, Wyoming Women’s Center Warden Rick Catron and other Niobrara County officials will be present and given the opportunity to be dunked. At 1:00PM the pool will open for free swim and a horseshoes and dodgeball tournament are scheduled. Santa’s Helpers will again be doing their concessions stand with sales going towards the yearling Christmas dinner in December. The celebration is meant as a time to come together and remember not just the perseverance of the flood, but the way that Niobrara County stood together, back to back, to help each other and the way that it continues to do so.
