Norma Langstonwas inducted into the Wyoming High School Speech and Debate Hall of Fame over the weekend.
She has spent the last 19 years coaching, nurturing, encouraging, validating, and welcoming both students and coaches alike. She has touched more lives than anyone knows and continues to do so. There is hardly a time that I can think of when we go somewhere and there isn’t at least one person she knows thanks to the Speech and Debate community.
To watch former competitors come up and recognize and hug her is truly humbling. Even years after they have graduated. One such man, who is now an assistant coach, commented to my mother over the weekend that she always made him feel welcome. These words and similar ones are uttered very very often about her.
If you see her, please congratulate her. While she will try and downplay this achievement, it is a truly great honor that only the greatest of coaches receive.
