LUSK- On May 27th Guys Piece of the Pie, “Nugget” a locally bred, raised and trained Quarter Horse qualified for The American Rodeo at the Loveland, CO American Qualifiers by placing 5th in a field of 26 and with a time of 14.651.
The American is the world’s richest 1 day rodeo. It offers the opportunity for both amateur and professional athletes to compete.
Held in Arlington, TX in February this rodeo is where the best of the best turn out to find out who will be champion.
Guys Piece of the Pie is an 11 year old owned by Dick and Connie Baker of Baker Horses. He is sired by Frenchman’s Guy and out of Fleeting Pie.
He was bred by Bill and Deb Myers of St. Onge, SD. HIs lifetime earnings so far are over $21,000.
He was ridden by another hometown athlete, Jaime Merrill. Jaime is a 2009 graduate of Niobrara County High School and daughter of Bob and Tammy Musfelt. Jaime started running barrels at 4 years old and competed in Junior, High School and College Rodeo. She has been Guys’ rider since 2016.
He was started by Skye Martin of Van Tassell and trained on barrels and run in futurities by Rod Grote of Torrington.
