LUSK- Two dates for a Take Back Drug Day have been scheduled so expired, unused or unknown prescription or over-the-counter drugs can be disposed of safely. Through a partnership with the Lusk Police Department, Niobrara Sheriff’s Office, Niobrara Senior Center and NCHS Service Learning class, people make take prescriptions and other medications to the police department Saturday December 1 from noon to 2 p.m. Another drop off is set for the Niobrara Senior Center on Monday, December 3 beginning at 11:45 with the Niobrara Sheriff’s office picking up medications until 12:30..
The high school service learning class wants to ensure that all medications not being used do not become a safety issue. Accumulated medication can become accessible to potential abusers, children and pets. Simply throwing medications away in the garbage or flushing them can harm water sources and damage fish and wildlife.
